Michael Jackson Adds 20 Concerts to London Run as Scramble for Tickets Begins

Tickets for Michael Jackson’s 10-night “This Is It!” run of concerts went on sale this morning for fans who received a presale password through e-mail, and demand was so high for Jackson’s last stand in London that an additional 20 shows and counting have been added. Once presale codes were e-mailed out yesterday, they began showing up on auction sites and Craigslist for $75 and up as fans began the furious scramble to see MJ’s historic gigs. The pre-sale tickets went on sale at 7 am GST, or 3 am for those of us on the East Coast, and the majority of Ticketmaster visitors were greeted by 15-minute wait times. Some fans suffered through never-ending wait times while others complained about receiving presale passwords that didn’t work, Music Ally reports. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, if there are any left.

An e-mail was sent out to the people who received presale passwords roughly two hours after the shows went on sale, encouraging fans to “Keep Trying!” “Ticketmaster is receiving an overwhelming amount of traffic to their website. They are having long waits and some technical difficulties but don’t worry!” reads the e-mail from AEG Live, who is promoting the event. “Tickets are still available and we encourage you to keep trying.” In actuality, tickets were still available, but not for the original 10-night stretch.

As the opening shows began to sell out, new dates for the “This Is It!” run were being added to Jackson’s tour page at Ticketmaster, proving that this wasn’t really it. At first only two new shows were announced, but that number blossomed to four, eight and now, as it stands at press time, 20 additional shows (which include some gigs on odd-numbered days — guess Rock Daily’s theory is moot). While you count the seconds for your wait time to end just to find out the MJ show you wanted to go to sold out, check out the “This Is It!” dates below.
